Frequently Asked Questions:

The following are answers to commonly asked questions about the MountainMesh service.

MountainMesh is a high-speed, wireless Internet service for homes, home offices and local businesses. It is currently available in the most densely populated areas of Descanso, Guatay, Japatul Valley and Viejas.

MountainMesh offers packages that provide different speeds to meet your needs. All plans are for 12 months and then continue month-to-month thereafter. The maximum speeds are listed in the following section and can be affected by many factors including internet traffic and the number of users in your home.

Single Computer Households:

If you have a single computer in your home and you can connect directly to our system with your computers wireless device then you may not need any additional equipment from us.

(In some cases you may NOT want your computer where our WIFI signal is the strongest in your home. You would then need to purchase a special modem from us so you may have your computer anywhere in your home.)

Multiple Computer Households:

If you wish to have two or three computers connected to our service you will need to purchase a CPE router from us at a cost of $130. Installation is $130 and you will need an in-home router that we can provide at $99.00 if you do not have one already.

Annual Pricing Plan-Save 10%:

If you would prefer to avoid tracking the monthly debits to your credit card, PLUS SAVE 10%, you may purchase the equipment up front, and/or pay your pricing plan for a year in advance for saving of up to over $100 off.

MountainMesh provides access to the Internet at much higher speeds than dial-up access, up to 1000 Mbps, which is nearly 30 times faster than typical dial-up speeds. A whole new world of content will open up to you with your broadband connection. And with MountainMesh, there is no dialing-in to get high-speed access to the Internet or the signal delay (latency) typical of satellite service.

Please visit the MountainMesh.net sign up page at the following link where you may select your plan and create a user name and password to access the internet: SIGN-UP NOW.

Sharing your signal, whether intentional or not, is a violation of our Terms of Use and will result in immediate termination of your service and applicable early termination fees will be assessed. Please review our Terms of Use for complete details..

Not hard at all. Once installed you are ready to surf the Internet at lightning fast speeds. You can use your same web-browser, go to the same sites, use your email, etc. just like you always have...but a lot faster!

We will provide a list of steps to take to troubleshoot the issue on your own. Should they not resolve the issue you may call our customer service line at MountainMesh which will be available Monday-Friday from 8AM-6PM.

We've selected a few devices that are small, yet powerful which typically are attached to the outside of your home and a wire is run down to your computer or router. We discuss the options prior to installation with you and give a quote if it would exceed the standard $260 installation/equipment fee.

If your location is close enough to one of our nodes that distribute the WIFI signal, then a simple wireless card or wireless router will connect you. Some locations will need an antenna and even a power booster to get connected to the system. The exact equipment needed can only be determined during installation.

Below is a list of equipment based on your configuration:

Single Computer Households:

If your wireless card connects to the "Visit_MountainMesh.net" signal strongly enough then nothing else is required. You can begin surfing after signing up.

If the signal is weak you will need to purchase a USB adapter from us or your local electronics store.

Multiple computer households require an in-home router in addition to the $260 CPE device we install which brings the signal into your home. We can provide you with a router for $99.00 or you may use your own.

Yes, if we install your system, the manufacturers warranty period would apply.

Yes, but we advise against it. We cannot guarantee the quiality of the signal nor can we remotely access your equipment unless we installed it. This can be very helpful if you experience connectivity issues.

Our basic install fee is $130. This fee does not cover troubleshooting firewall, virus or operating system issues. If your computer has these issues we bill out at $80/hour for these type of programming fixes.

Yes.

Most computers in use today will meet our minimum system requirements. PC/ Windows: 300 MHz or faster processing speed, minimum 128 MB Random Access Memory (RAM), and Windows 2000, XP Home or XP Professional and Vista operating systems. 100 MB of hard drive space and an ethernet card are required.
Macintosh: 300 MHz or faster processing speed, 128MB Random Access Memory (RAM), and OS 10.4 or higher operating system. 100 MB of hard drive space and an ethernet card are required.<

MountainMesh customers are required to sign up for a 12 month contract when they initiate service. If you disconnect your service before the 12 months expire, there will be a cancellation fee equal to the price of your monthly service multiplied by the remaining number of months in your contract.

We highly recommend that you sign up for FREE email account through Gmail from Google.com for it's ease of use and reliability. This will also allow you to access your email account from anywhere on the Web. If we were to offered email accounts with our system you would only be able to access your email when you were on-line, on our system. Additionally, the costs associated with maintaining an email server and the required SPAM filters would drive up the cost of our service plans substantially.

So far...Yes. You can use MountainMesh for high-speed broadband Internet access and keep your AOL service if, for example, you want to retain your current email account. You will need to pay a separate fee directly to AOL beyond your monthly MountainMesh fee. Please contact AOL directly for more information.

As is standard with other Internet Service Providers, MountainMesh ensures that its service operates at optimum speeds for all of its customers. Since MountainMesh is a shared network, we have a Fair Access Policy to ensure that extraordinary usage by a few customers doesn't negatively affect the normal usage of other customers. For the vast majority of users, the Fair Access Policy limits has no effect on their usage. For a few very heavy bandwidth users, the system may restrict their bandwidth and therefore their speed. See MountainMesh's Fair Access Policy.

Yes, we have plans to expand or service area to cover most of the other outlying regions of the East County over time. Information about upcoming service areas will be posted on our site as we near deployment in that area.

Yes. You can do it yourself or we can provide you with a tech to contact who can set it up for you.

Typically, yes but in certain circumstances you can connect with near line-of-sight, which can only be determined during installation.

MountainMesh's broadband Internet connection provides a user experience similar to most DSL services. We offer download speeds of up to 1000 Mbps - nearly 30 times faster than today's dial-up speeds. We offer upload speeds up to 256 Kbps. MountainMesh's high bandwidth opens up a window to a world of rich content that is largely unavailable through dial-up modems.

Windows/PC: Windows 2000, XP or Vista
Mac: OS 10.4 or higher.

Yes. The MountainMesh service is compatible with Macintosh computers.

At this time, MountainMesh does not support VoIP but we are looking into what is involved.

Many computers can be upgraded with a 10/100 Ethernet Network Interface Card (NIC) - which you can find at almost any consumer electronics store, or at an online store. If you are comfortable with opening your computer and installing hardware, most Ethernet NICs can be self-installed. Otherwise you may want to hire our professional installers. Check with your computer manufacturer for more information on the right Ethernet NIC for your system. Also, if you have an available USB port on your computer, you can purchase a USB Ethernet adapter (available at almost any consumer electronics store, or online). This may be easier to install than a PCI card in your computer. For a laptop, you can purchase a standard PCMCIA card that provides an Ethernet connection, or you can purchase a USB Ethernet adapter as well. We recommend that you upgrade your computer to meet all of the requirements mentioned above to get the most out of your Internet experience.

The MountainMesh service is typically not affected by weather unless under extreme conditions. If this does occur you may notice slower MountainMesh speeds during very heavy rain or snowstorms.
